Vagal Tone

Welcome to the Big Stuff!  This month there is a lot of learning going on here!  This month is one of the CORE FOUNDATIONAL set of ideas and principles we are building everything based on.  What you will find here is just a start, but we have to begin somewhere!  So with that?  Let's Go!

January Breathing Technique:  Alternate Nostril Breathing

January Habit is SUNLIGHT/Vitamin D

This is the hardest time in the northern hemisphere to get both sunlight and Vitamin D - we need both, they aren't one in the same.  The dividing line is the 37 degree mark if you look on a map that will let you know if your location has access to the UV rays you need to be healthy.  Even with that, most stay inside and we go outside with lots of clothes on!  There's a lot more, but linked to view or download below is an overview of the Vitamin D protocols (meaning absorbing, not just taking) that are necessary for the benefits:  mood, healing, over all health!

 January Week (4) 2020

Heart Rate Variability and Vagal Tone

The challenge in life is what to hold on to and what to let go of.  It is much the same as balancing our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.  It is a constant dance between the two ideas and systems.  It is also at the core of our heart, our brain, and our over all health.  I'm including Dr. Cowan's interview on his understanding of the heart and brain in relationship to attack and stroke.  Both are triggered from these ideas we are talking about here.

Are You Seeing a Theme?

As we wind down this month, I am sure you've picked up a couple of things.  One - everything is in relationship to everything.  Two - Ideas without Action = nothing changes.

This Week:

  • Do you know your resting heart rate?
  • Is there anything you can let go of that is causing you stress?
  • Will you take one long walk and just see what happens?

 January Week (1) 2020

Nervous System Overview
The first step to our new year is going to be just getting oriented on the nervous system itself.  There will be no specific task other than doing as much education and research as you are willing to do!  The nervous system is one of our KEY PROCESSES we will remain focused on.  It is such a core system and is connected to everything you can't spend too much time learning about it!

Simple Nervous System Overview

Many of our mental, emotional, and physical health issues are related to some aspect of our nervous system.  Here is a general overview of signs, symptoms, and tests when evaluating the health/status of the main nervous system:  Merck Manual Exam Article

There is no way we can cover everything in one week!  Here are just some starting places that will lead you to more if you want to keep researching.  This will be an ongoing subject, but again it is SO critical in over all health and function I can't stress enough that not just understanding it, but applying to your life is SOOOO vital!

The other reason this is vital is not only because of our everyday life and health, but also this is the road to mind control.  It is no longer conspiracy, the patents and newly released documents by FOIA verify this.  It is real.  The only way to combat this is to understand your own mind and nervous system.  I know, but still  - this is real and it is happening.

January Week (2) 2020

Polyvagal Theory and Practice
There is a new theory of Trauma, PTSD, and the Nervous System that is really more than just trauma, but stress and life itself:
POLYVAGAL THEORY AND PTSD LINK

How Trauma can impact your life:

We tend to think of trauma as something that happens only once and maybe never to us.  But even small incidents we had as children that were not traumatic as we may define it, can have the same physiological impacts on our bodies and minds.

But there is SO much more to all of this, more than can
ever be covered in one week.  However, we all need to start somewhere!

Same Idea, Different Name:  Peter Levine and Somatic Experience

No one has the 'market' on any one idea about all of this - it stems from nature, our biology, and observation.  This video gives some more context and relates it to nature.

This Week:

This information only begins to touch on the real story, but we have to start somewhere.  The most important task this week is to take what you have read, listened to, and watched and apply it to your life.  Can you see any patterns, behaviors, ideas popping up?  Is there anything you want to pursue further?  Next week we will move into some of the daily practices you can do to manage or process these ideas!  Deep breath, here we go!

January Week (3) 2020

Exercises and Practices for Vagal Tone
This Week:  The goal is to keep learning and understanding - but, wait for it... actually start doing some of these things every day!  The simple version is: slow down, be happy, stay calm.  But there are also some specific practices you can do to trigger the vagus nerve and develop more tone.  Tone refers to using it so you don't lose it!  Getting stressed out is easy!  Letting stress go is much harder!
